THE BARN IS BACK! This winter we took on a major renovation project, the recreation barn. Once again we will be able to play in the barn on rainy days as well as enjoy our Friday night Lobster Bakes in the shade of it's timbers. Other sprucing projects included new paint on the dining room ceiling, fans throughout the dining room to better circulate the air on sultry summer days. New fixtures, fresh paint and new floor in the farmhouse powder room. Many new bedspreads, blankets and pillows for the cabins. We are also planning on a new play structure for the little ones in the spring. What's new in 2006 We will be replacing all of the twin beds in the cabins this spring. The Beehive is getting an overhaul this winter, if you would like to bring along a friend for a couple of nights during your stay please inquire for availability! This fall we are planning on restoring our recreation barn. In speaking with a restoration professional we have come to learn that it is an example of the English tying beam design. It is estimated to have been built around 1825. We hope that during the restoration we find some more hints about the construction! What's new in 2005Cabin's 14 and 15 received some sprucing up to the interior. New pine walls, a ceiling fan and additional windows make the space much brighter. We also worked on the bathrooms. We added roomier shower stalls and finished the walls. The septic system was expanded, we continue to do our part to preserve the water quality of East Pond. Martha and Carter welcomed a new family member in May, her name is Penelope and she looks forward to growing up at camp!
What's new in 2004Carter and Jerry have finally "caught up" with the cabins- now every one has a new bathroom. One of our one bedroom cottages is even wheelchair accessible! Now we just have to work on getting accessibility to the Farmhouse.2003We are excited to welcome a new crew of chefs to our kitchen this season Troy Welch is our new head chef, he comes to Alden's with 10 years of experience in gourmet kitchens. After working under Joe Plumstead (former Alden's Head Chef '84-'97) for several years, he has moved on to help start up two restaurants one locally in Waterville and another in Vieques, Puerto Rico. Ken Carey our second chef and lunch cook has over 5 years of cooking experience. He also has worked with Troy and Joe Plumstead at The Last Unicorn in Waterville. Ali Hill is quickly learning all aspects of pastry preparation. She has worked at Alden Camps for the past 2 summers as a waitress and is excited about learning the camp recipes as well as developing some of her own special desserts! Travis Pelletier our new breakfast cook has worked locally at a fast paced restaurant preparing breakfasts and sandwiches, his experience will be greatly appreciated during our famous breakfasts. Troy, Ken, Ali, and Travis have had rave reviews so far this season!Jerry and Carter built new bathrooms on several cottages over the course of the winter New in 2002YES!!!! We finally have a new ski boat! Our first few staff members have arrived for the season. We are all keeping busy preparing camp for the summer ahead! Carter and Jerry have been busy building new bathrooms yet again, this year's lucky winners are "Tall Timber" and "Ferncroft". They are also running new electrical lines through the Farmhouse, and doing general repairs. As soon as the ground thaws they will also be putting an addition on the porch to "Logside".
